| Cambyses (Old Persian Kambujiya): father of the Persian king
Cyrus.
According to the Greek researcher Herodotus,
he was married to Mandane, the daughter of the Median
king Astyages; their son was the founder of
the Persian empire, king Cyrus. It is unclear whether this is a true story;
that Cyrus had a Median mother, may have been invented to justify the Persian
suzerainity. On the other hand, diplomatic marriages are of all ages.
According to Herodotus, Cambyses was "a man of good family and quiet
habits". |
