| Margiana (Old Persian Margâva): satrapy of the Persian
empire (Merv in modern Turkmenistan). After the Persian king Darius
had suppressed the rebellion of the Magian Gaumâta
in September 522 and went to Babylon, many tribes
in the eastern half of the empire revolted. One of the rebels was Frâda,
who was defeated by Dâdarshish,
the satrap of Bactria, on December 28,
