SYDNEY BLACK INDEX

SYDNEY BLACK INDEX

Sydney Black (1860 -1903) was, perhaps, the greatest evangelist within the British Churches of Christ and was also vitally interested in social reform. Black was identified with the more liberal "Forward Movement" although many people to-day would see him as being conservative in his religious views. He began the Twynholm church in London, which rapidly became the largest Church of Christ in Britain, but died at an early age of renal failure. Black wrote the conference paper for 1889 and was President in 1897. His biography was entitled, "Sydney Black, Preacher and Social Reformer."
